As April is the start of the new financial year, now is the time to get the new budgets finalised. The health, happiness and resulting productivity of your workforce will drive your business to greater heights this year.

April is the start of a new financial year and I.T. cleaning is one of the things that gets put to the bottom of the pile. Who should deal with it? I.T., Health & Safety, Facilities or HR? If only somebody could recognise how much bacteria you're working on. Professional people working on dirty keyboards and dirty 'phones might feel more valued as they work in a cleaner environment. They might not realise quite the environment they're working in until they've actually had their computers cleaned - it's like having a lick of paint, and brightens the whole office. And you never know - it might get them to tidy their paperwork up.

An idea worth more than money

31st January is a very important day for accountants. They've been working to their deadlines - and with the tax return deadline of 31st January you can't get any closer! Everybody's worked together as a team, seeing a stressful target completed. Behind the scenes of an accountancy firm, people have been peddling ten to a dozen. We're just over halfway through February, and one of their busiest times has just completed - time to take a little breather, have a look round and pat themselves on the back. This is the time to take stock of the importance of a good team. Let's not be shortsighted of staff's efforts and their loyalty to the company. Here's an idea worth more than money - to say thank-you to your staff, invest in them. It doesn't have to be training, it can be something more personal like having a basket of fruit delivered, or a good spruce up of their workspace. Everyone wants to be valued, and showing they're important will do wonders for the company.
